Spurs interested in £50m rated Brighton defender

Tottenham are interested in a deal to sign Brighton right-back Tariq Lamptey, though the Seagulls could demand as much as £50m for the England u21 international.

The north London side are seeking additions at right-back with Serge Aurier expected to leave the club this summer, the Ivorian having been linked with a return to Paris Saint-Germain and reunion with former Spurs manager, Mauricio Pochettino.

Lamptey has now emerged as a target for Spurs with the 20-year-old having impressed since making the move to the Amex Stadium from Chelsea in January 2020, though has not featured since December after sustaining a hamstring injury.

Brighton’s leading names are currently subject of interest from a number of the Premier League’s biggest sides, with both Yves Bissouma and Ben White targets for clubs higher up the division.

The Seagulls have rejected a bid of around £40m from Arsenal for England international White, and the Mail are reporting that Brighton will demand a similar figure from interested suitors for Lamptey.

Spurs are currently without a manager following the sacking of Jose Mourinho, though former Shakhtar Donestk manager Paulo Fonseca is expected to take charge and the new manager will hope to be backed in the transfer market.

Spurs did move to strengthen their right-back options with the signing of Matt Doherty from Wolves last summer, though the Ireland international endured a largely disappointing debut campaign in the capital.
