Manchester United put their Premier League woes to the side tonight, beating Partizan Belgrade 3-0 at Old Trafford and securing their place in the last 32 of the Europa League.
So often this season Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have produced stodgy performances on their own patch, but they started tonight’s game brightly and Marcus Rashford missed a trio of presentable chances within the opening 15 minutes.
Manchester United would make a deserved breakthrough in the 21st minute when highly-rated teenage attacker Mason Greenwood cut in from the right and finished expertly past the Partizan ‘keeper with his trusty left peg.
Just over 10 minutes later United would have their second, with Anthony Martial embarking on a superb solo run and hitting the net with a delightful improvised finish.
Rashford then hammered a fine effort into the roof of the net just after half time to seal the win for the home side.

Speaking after the game United attacker Rashford was pleased with his sides showing, although he thought they maybe left a few goals out there tonight.
“I think it was a good performance but there are things we can improve on,” Rashford told BT Sport.
”We managed to score three goals but it could have been a lot more. There were a couple of times where I was half a yard too forward so it was a game of fine margins but we are happy with the three goals.
”For me, it’s about recognising it and trying to correct it in the next game but I won’t let it stay on my mind for too long.”
Rashford also had some words of advice for his 18-year-old team-mate Greenwood and admitted United are pleased to have reached the knockout stages.
“He has done very well,” the England striker added.
”He just needs to keep knuckling down and working hard and the goals will come because he has a lot of quality.
”We are pleased to have qualified but we really want to finish in top position and we have two more games to do it so we are in a good position.”
