Ole Gunnar Solskajer admits he keeps ‘in touch’ with Erling Haaland amid continued speculation linking the Borussia Dortmund forward with a move to the Premier League.
Haaland has established himself as one of the most exciting talents in world football after bursting onto the scene last season, with the Norway international having scored 43 goals in just 43 appearances in all competitions since signing for Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg.
The 20-year-old has starred this season and is the leading scorer in this season’s Champions League following a double against Sevilla last week, the brace against the Spanish side extending his phenomenal record in the competition to 18 goals in just 13 fixtures since making his debut last season.
Haaland has a well-documented release clause of €75m in his contract at the Westfalenstadion that will become active in the summer of 2022, though recent speculation has suggested that Dortmund could be prepared to cash in on the forward for a greater fee this summer.
Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Real Madrid are just some of the names to have been linked with a potential move as Europe’s elite side await news on Haaland’s availability, with Dortmund facing financial pressure amid the threat of missing out on Champions League qualification and the ongoing pandemic.
Manchester United have also been strongly linked with the player with the Red Devils considering their centre-forward options this summer, the links to Haaland persisting given Solskjaer’s relationship with his compatriot.
Solskjaer previously coached Haaland at Norwegian side Molde and has hinted at a future move for the player after admitting he has kept ‘in touch’ with the star following his sensational rise to superstardom.
“When you have had kids and players through as a coach, you follow them,” he said at a pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Real Sociedad.
“I keep in touch with them. He is a Dortmund player. We just wish him well there and let’s see what life will bring later on.
“It would be disrespectful to speak about him but who wasn’t interested in him a year ago?”
