Sevilla are keen to recoup close to Jules Kounde’s €80m release clause amid interest in the defender from Chelsea.

Chelsea have made Kounde their leading defensive target ahead of the new Premier League season and have opened discussions with Sevilla over a deal for the France international, who has a release clause of €80m (£68m) in his contract.

The west London side are prepared to include centre-back Kurt Zouma in part-exchange for Kounde, who is interested in a move to the Premier League and Stamford Bridge after two impressive seasons in Spain.

Goal are reporting that Sevilla want to bring in funds, rather than players, in any deal for Kounde, with the La Liga side looking for a figure close to the defender’s release clause.

Zouma could still be included as a potential makeweight, though Sevilla will demand a fee of around €45m (£38m) in addition to the inclusion of the France international in part-exchange.

Sevilla are under no pressure to sell Kounde, who is contracted until 2024, though will sanction his sale if Chelsea make an offer too good to refuse, having already agreed the sale of Bryan Gil to Tottenham.

That deal saw Erik Lamela included in exchange alongside a £21.3m fee and Chelsea will be hoping they can find a similar agreement in order to bring Kounde to England.

As for Zouma, Everton are also said to be interested in re-signing a player who spent the 2018/19 season on loan at Goodison Park.
