Jadon Sancho is still lacking his ‘natural lightness’ as the Borussia Dortmund star struggles for form, according to the club’s sporting director Michael Zorc.
Sancho has failed to produce his finest form over the opening weeks of the campaign following a summer in which he was the subject of intense transfer speculation, the winger having been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United throughout the transfer window.
The England international has failed to score in the Bundesliga so far this season and has netted just twice in all competitions, both goals coming from the penalty spot as the 20-year-old has struggled to replicate his previous performances.
Sancho was largely ineffective during Dortmund’s 3-2 loss to Bayern Munich on Saturday evening, and sporting director Zorc admits the player is not operating at his full potential at present.
“He has had better and more efficient games,” Zorc told Ruhr Nachrichten. “He’s lacking a bit of natural lightness at the moment.
“Of course we speak to him, but it’s not something you can rediscover just by talking.”
Dortmund manager, Lucien Favre, also gave his assessment of Sancho following the defeat and whilst admitting the winger is not at his best, has backed the youngster to rediscover his form.
Speaking on Sancho’s slow start to the season, Favre said: “You can’t be in top form for a year. If he’s not at 100 percent for a month, we have to accept that.”
Sancho will be hoping for improved performances after being included in the England squad for November’s international break, the Three Lions facing Ireland in the first of three scheduled fixtures on Thursday night.
