Sadio Mane insists he is ‘ready’ for Liverpool return despite short summer break

Sadio Mane insists he is ‘ready’ to return to the Liverpool side as they prepare to face Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday night.

Champions League winners Liverpool face Europa League holders Chelsea in Istanbul in midweek, aiming to add a second European trophy to their collection after last season’s success.

Mane made a cameo appearance during Liverpool’s 4-1 win over Norwich in the Premier League on Friday night, having been given extended leave following his involvement in this summer’s African Cup of Nations.

The Senegal forward only returned to Liverpool on August 5 after just a 16-day break, but despite his short summer the 27-year-old claims he is ready to return to first-team action.

“I am ready,” Mane told the media on Tuesday. “Fitness, tiredness, is in here [in my head].

“For a long time now I’ve never had a break…for seven years I’ve never had a holiday longer than 20 days,” he added.

“So I am sure I am ready for it – let’s do it. This is a lucky city for Liverpool, hopefully, it will be the same this time, we are going to do everything for the win because that is our focus, to give everything to win the trophy.

“We have to give everything to try and win, and just hope that it continues to be a lucky place for Liverpool.”
