Romelu Lukaku is open to a return to Chelsea from Inter Milan and believes he could ‘flourish’ under the guidance of Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge.
The west London side are currently preparing a renewed approach that would see Lukaku become the most expensive signing in Premier League history, with the forward having reportedly been left impressed by Chelsea’s determination to secure a deal.
According to the Telegraph, Lukaku is ready to make a return to the Premier League and believes he could flourish under Tuchel’s management, with the German seeking the signing of a leading centre-forward to fire his side’s title charge.
Chelsea are willing to hand Lukaku a contract worth £250,000-a-week and are prepared to spend a record-breaking fee to secure a deal for the Belgium international.
Lukaku signed for Chelsea as a teenager from Anderlecht but made just 15 goalless appearances for the club, spending time on loan with West Brom and Everton before a £28m permanent move to the latter in 2014.
He has enjoyed the best period of his career since signing for Inter from Manchester United two seasons ago, eclipsing Ronaldo Nazario as the fastest player in the club’s history to reach 50 goals in all competitions.
The 28-year-old was named as Serie A’s Most Valuable Player in 2020/21 after scoring 24 league goals to fire Inter to a drought-breaking title success, but could now return to English football after two prolific seasons in Italy.
Manchester City are claimed to have made enquiries for the forward as they seek a replacement for the departed Sergio Aguero, though the report says he had ‘no interest’ in returning to the North West, though a return to the capital is said to be much more appealing.
