Roberto Carlos developed somewhat of a penchant for the spectacular during a career that saw the brilliant Brazilian shine as arguably the world’s best left-back.
Carlos’ name has often been associated with the implausible free-kick goal he scored for Brazil at the 1997 Tournoi de France, but that stunning set-piece was not the only physics-defying strike the thunder-thighed star netted during an illustrious career.
The finest seasons of Carlos’ career came in the colours of Real Madrid as he won four league titles and three Champions League trophies with the Spanish giants, scoring 69 times during that period with his efforts more often than not special.
This incredible strike against Tenerife was perhaps the pick of the bunch, the marauding star blasting a brilliant byline effort over the goalkeeper from a seemingly impossible angle to score.
Here is Roberto Carlos’ iconic goal for Real Madrid against Tenerife.
