Report: PSG close to agreeing €75 million deal for De Ligt

Paris Saint-Germain are close to agreeing a €75 million deal to sign Ajax star Matthijs de Ligt.

The Dutch defender has emerged as one of European football’s most in-demand players this summer, after captaining Ajax to a domestic double and the semi-finals of the Champions League.

The 19-year-old is believed to be a target for a host of Europe’s elite, with Barcelona, Manchester United, Liverpool and Juventus amongst those linked.

However, following reports of PSG leading the race to sign De Ligt, French outlet RMC are reporting that the Ligue 1 champions are on the verge of agreeing a €75m deal with Ajax for the highly-rated teenager.

De Ligt’s agent, Mino Raiola, is currently in the French capital to discuss personal terms and conclude a deal that will see the Dutchman sign a long-term contract at the Ligue 1 club, with ESPN reporting that the deal offered to De Ligt is worth a huge €12m-a-year,

While it is thought the defender prefers a move to Barcelona, PSG are hoping he can be persuaded to move to France by the possibility of being a key figure in their attempts to finally conquer Europe after years of domestic dominance.

Raiola was pictured in Paris with French reporter Lassana Camara, who claimed the controversial agent was there to conclude the transfer’, although the Italian swiftly moved to label it as ‘fake news’.

“This is the classic example of fake news,” Raiola told Italian outlet ANSA. “The photograph of me and the French journalist in Paris? He asked me to take a picture together, but I did not know who this gentleman was.

“I have never spoken with him.”
