Ranking the five favourites to sign Robert Lewandowski this summer

Robert Lewandowski has been linked with an exit from Bayern Munich despite his continued brilliance for the Bundesliga side, with the two parties having failed to open talks over a new deal.

Lewandowski’s contract is set to expire in 2023 and there have been murmurs that the Poland international is keen on a new challenge after eight seasons of goalscoring genius in Munich.

The 33-year-old’s hat-trick against Red Bull Salzburg this week took him to 40 goals in all competitions this season, the seventh consecutive campaign that the forward has reached that figure.

The statistics are truly remarkable for one of the game’s great number nines and Europe’s elite clubs will be interested should he decide to leave Bayern this summer.

Those of you who like to follow the latest odds will be glad to know that you can bet £10 get £30 promotion is offered by many leading bookmakers. So with that in mind, here are the five favourites to sign Robert Lewandowski.

Chelsea – 12/1

Chelsea have been priced at 12/1 odds to sign Lewandowski, with the west Londoners having failed to find the balance in their side this season.

Romelu Lukaku’s arrival from Inter Milan last summer has proven a disappointing deal, speculation continuing to surround the future of the £97.5m record signing after a frustrating first season at Stamford Bridge.

Lukaku has scored just ten goals in all competitions and has been linked with a return to Italy, a move which could free funds and room to pursue a deal for Lewandowski.

However, Chelsea face an uncertain period at present following the UK government’s sanctions on owner Roman Abramovich, sanctions which prevent the Blues from conducting transfer business at present.

Real Madrid – 9/1

Real Madrid are believed to have been long-term admirers of Lewandowski’s talents, having witnessed his capabilities first hand after a four-goal destruction in the 2012/13 Champions League semi-finals.

The Spanish giants are set to make major moves in the summer window, but the club’s focus remains on deals for Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland.

Mbappe is a free agent this summer and is expected to complete a free transfer move to the Bernabeu from Paris Saint-Germain, whilst Real are among the front runners – alongside Manchester City – to sign Haaland when his €75m release clause becomes active at Borussia Dortmund.

Given Karim Benzema’s continued brilliance, it remains unlikely Lewandowski will arrive in the Spanish capital unless there are significant developments elsewhere.

Arsenal – 8/1

Arsenal are riding a wave of momentum at present, winning each of their past four Premier League fixtures to climb into the top four.

Having not featured in the Champions League since the 2016/17 season, the Gunners are in pole position to secure a return to Europe’s elite.

Mikel Arteta is believed to be targeting two new forwards in the summer transfer window, with both Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette out of contract at the Emirates.

Lewandowski would deviate from the club’s recent recruitment in signing young talent, but the prospect of bringing the world’s finest number nine to the Premier League would appeal.

Lewandowski, whilst a short-term deal, is the sort of signing that can help transform Arsenal back into challengers for silverware.

Paris Saint-Germain – 6/1

Paris Saint-Germain are another team who will be on the hunt for a centre-forward this summer if, as expected, Kylian Mbappe leaves the Parc des Princes.

Mbappe seems set to head to Real Madrid on a free transfer and his exit will represent a huge blow to the Parisian’s project.

The signing of Lewandowski would go some way to filling that void, however, with the Poland international having scored 336 goals in 364 appearances since signing for Bayern Munich.

The back-to-back winner of The Best FIFA Men’s Player in 2020 and 2021, his pedigree in the Champions League could help PSG’s quest for a maiden title after another disappointing exit this season.

Manchester City – 5/1

Manchester City are the 5/1 favourites to sign Lewandowski from Bayern Munich, with the Premier League champions in search of a number nine this summer.

City are believed to be chasing hard to secure a deal for Erling Haaland, but should the Borussia Dortmund forward choose an alternative destination then attentions could be turned to Lewandowski.

Pep Guardiola knows the forward well after coaching Lewandowski at Bayern Munich and a move to the Etihad is sure to appeal should the forward decide on a new challenge.

City boast arguably the best squad in world football right now and the addition of Lewandowski would be an ominous message to the rest of Europe.
