Ralf Rangnick says Jurgen Klopp has taken Liverpool to ‘another level’ and has praised the German as ‘one of the best’ coaches in the world.
Rangnick will come up against his compatriot as Manchester United travel to face Liverpool in the Premier League on Tuesday evening, with both sides in need of three points as one of English football’s great rivalries is resumed.
United can move level on points with fourth-place Tottenham with a win at Anfield, but are up against a Liverpool team who are unbeaten in the Premier League 2022 and in pursuit of an unprecedented quadruple of major trophies.
Rangnick spoke on Klopp’s impact since taking charge at Liverpool in 2015 and says his transformation of the Reds proves the German is a fine example of ‘modern management’.
“I think we spoke about that earlier on and it was the same at other clubs like when he went to Borussia Dortmund or even when he started his coaching career at Mainz. He developed the clubs and raised the whole club, not only the team, to another level and that is what modern management is all about,” Rangnick told his pre-match press conference.
“He’s without a doubt one of the best, if not the best coach, not only now but for the last couple of years. As I said, if this should be a role model, I don’t know but again, it’s no coincidence what has happened there in the last six years. In his first year, when he came in after eight or nine games, they finished eighth at the end with a points average of 1.6. Thereafter they just made the necessary adaptations.
“They brought in the right players, they got rid of the right players. They built a squad and that’s why they are where they are.”
