Premier League Transfer Rumour Mill: Real Madrid consider shock Premier League move

The transfer rumours in the Premier League are ramping up the further we get into January – here are some of the most notable on Tuesday, January 9.

In perhaps the most surprising transfer rumour of the month so far, Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite has been linked with a move to Real Madrid by the Mail. When you think about it, though, then maybe it shouldn’t be all that shocking of a story.

Carlo Ancelotti, who just signed a contract extension at the Bernabeu, gave the 21-year-old his Premier League debut while he was at the club. This season the English youngster has excelled in central defence for the Toffees, evidently catching the raised eyebrow of his former boss.

On top of that, Real’s only available centre-back is Antonio Rudiger after David Alaba and Eder Militao both suffered season-ending ACL injuries. But Ancelotti says the La Liga outfit are not in the market for defenders this month, so any move for Branthwaite would likely come in the summer.

Everton may also have a battle on their hands to hold onto Amadou Onana, who is attracting interest from several top clubs. The Belgian midfielder is reportedly ‘keen’ on joining Arsenal, who have held ‘intensive talks’ over a possible transfer, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri. The Gunners are ‘serious’ about a deal, say Belgian outlet Het Nieuwsblad (via SportWitness), while Football Transfers claim Manchester United have also opened talks with Onana. The same publication reports that the Red Devils are battling Aston Villa for Jonathan David.

Staying on Merseyside, Liverpool look set to send Fabio Carvalho on loan to Championship side Hull City, according to The Athletic. The Portuguese had reportedly attracted the interest of Leeds United, Leicester City, Southampton, and Wolves after his loan spell at RB Leipzig was cut short.

Meanwhile, former Reds midfielder Jordan Henderson continues to be linked with new clubs everyday. After reportedly doing a pathetic U-turn on his summer move to Saudi Arabia, which could cost him millions of pounds, Celtic have been mooted as a possible escape route, while talkSPORT claim he has been ‘offered’ to Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen. He has also been linked with Chelsea.

Elsewhere, today could be key in the future of Radu Dragusin, who is edging closer to joining Tottenham Hotspur this month. Indeed, that may happen this week as the player is due to sit down for talks with the club this morning to “finalise his future”, according to Ben Jacobs. Bayern Munich have joined the race, according to reports in Romania, but Jacobs reports that there’s been “no offer” from the German club yet.

Spurs have formally offered €25m (£21.5m) plus €5m (£4.3m) in add-ons for the defender, but they could add a little sweetener by sending Djed Spence on loan to the Serie A club, according to Fabrizio Romano. The full-back returned from his loan at Leeds United and is training with the under-21s, as per Football.London.

Over to west London, where Fulham manager Marco Silva says the transfer window will be very quiet – “unfortunately” – for the Cottagers, but they are linked with a move for former Leicester centre-back Caglar Soyuncu regardless. Sky Italia claim they have already offered around €20m for the 27-year-old, who has barely played since joining Atletico Madrid as a free agent in the summer. Jose Mourinho’s Roma are also said to be interested.
