Unai Emery is set to celebrate the first anniversary of his appointment at Aston Villa this week, with the Spaniard having had a transformative impact on the team.
Emery inherited a team struggling near the relegation places last autumn, before overseeing a turnaround that saw Villa secure European qualification for the first time in more than a decade.
Villa have continued that momentum this season and are one point outside the Champions League places, increasing optimism of another successful season under Emery.
We’ve decided to look at the Premier League teams who have won the most points since Emery’s appointment at Aston Villa.
The teams with the most Premier League points since Unai Emery arrived at Aston Villa:
5. Manchester United – 67
Erik ten Hag guided Manchester United to a top four finish and Champions League football during his debut campaign in charge in 2022/23. The former Ajax boss also won the EFL Cup to end the club’s six-year wait for major silverware, in a satisfactory first season at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils have endured a mixed start to the current campaign however, and sit eighth in the Premier League table after nine games. Improvement is required if Ten Hag’s team are to secure another campaign among Europe’s elite next season.
4. Aston Villa – 68
Aston Villa are fourth in the Premier League for points won since Emery’s arrival, after thrashing West Ham 4-1 at the weekend to move within two points of leaders Manchester City.
Villa’s form across the last 12 months would be enough to secure Champions League football if were to be maintained for a full season, a clear indication of Emery’s impact in the Midlands. Villa’s win over West Ham was an 11th consecutive Premier League home win for the club, their longest sequence on home soil since 1983 – when Villa were the reigning champions of Europe.

3. Liverpool – 71
Liverpool have taken 71 points across the last 12 months, the third-highest figure in the Premier League. A disappointing domestic campaign last season saw the Reds miss out on Champions League qualification in 2022/23, but a strong run of form during the run-in has been continued into the new campaign.
Liverpool are just a point behind leaders Manchester City after nine games, after beating Everton 2-0 in the Merseyside Derby at the weekend. Jurgen Klopp rebuilt his midfield during the summer in a period of change for Liverpool, but a new-look side has shown signs that it can compete this season.
2. Arsenal – 74
Arsenal came close to ending the club’s long wait for a Premier League title last season, as the Gunners led the table for a record-breaking 248 days before faltering during the run-in.
The north Londoners are primed for another tilt at the title this season after investing heavily during the summer, with the headline arrival the ยฃ105m capture of Declan Rice from West Ham
Mikel Arteta’s team have not quite reached the standards of last season yet, but remain unbeaten nine games into the new campaign.
1. Manchester City – 81
Manchester City have won more points than any other team in the Premier League across the last 12 months, with Pep Guardiola’s team the benchmark for the rest of the division.

City came from behind to win a fifth league title in six seasons last term, extending their recent dominance of the Premier League. No team in English football history has won four consecutive top-flight titles, but the Citizens will take some stopping in their bid for record-breaking immortality.
