Potter: Chelsea ‘believe in’ Mykhailo Mudryk after Ukrainian’s difficult start to life in the Premier League

Chelsea boss Graham Potter has tipped January signing Mykhailo Mudryk to overcome his difficult start to life in English football and prove a success for the west London club.

Chelsea fought off competition from Premier League leaders Arsenal to sign the 22-year-old winger from Shakhtar Donetsk for £88.5 million during the winter transfer window.

However, after initially impressing on his debut against Liverpool Mudryk has struggled for form and fitness, and has only featured for 181 minutes in the Premier League after slipping down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.

Despite his limited impact so far during his Chelsea career Potter is backing the highly-rated attacker to come good and insists Mudryk is a player the Blues have a lot of faith in.

“He comes into the equation. He is a player we believe in a lot,” Potter told his pre-match press conference ahead of his sides away trip to Leicester this weekend.

“When he arrived, he was in the middle of a pre-season campaign, so to hit the ground running in the Premier League is not so easy to do.

“But day-by-day, week-by-week he is getting stronger and stronger, so he’ll be in the squad tomorrow and there’s a chance he could play.”
