Pochettino cofirms Lloris remains his number one despite Anfield howler

Mauricio Pochettino insists Hugo Lloris will remain as Tottenham’s number one, despite the goalkeeper’s costly mistake in last weekend’s defeat at Liverpool.

The France international failed to hold a tame header from Mohamed Salah in the last minute, with the goalkeepers parry rebounding off Toby Alderweireld for an own goal to hand Liverpool a late win.

Despite the 32-year-old’s error, Pochettino insists the Tottenham captain will remain his first choice goalkeeper.

“Hugo is one of the best and he is going to be in goal tomorrow. He is my captain, he is one of the best keepers in the world. That is not in doubt.”

Pochettino insists that while the late nature of the defeat at Anfield was ‘painful’, he has backed his players to bounce back when they host Crystal Palace on Wednesday night in what is the first game back at their new home at White Hart Lane.

“It is a situation that is so painful because we deserved more.

“We have to be strong and back our players. Hugo is going to be great for us and will be one of the most important players for the future of the club.”
