Pellegrini insists he still ‘supports’ out of sorts Arnautovic

West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini has backed Marko Arnautovic to rediscover his best form.

The 29-year-old was in superb form in the first-half of the season, but is now without a goal since January.

The Austria international was subject of transfer speculation in the January transfer window, with a failed move to China having disrupted his campaign, and has since been booed by sections of the club’s support.

Pellegrini has backed Arnautovic to end his goalless run, and says the forward remains happy at the club.

“It happens to players that at moments of a season that a player isn’t in his best moment, and they need our support. If anybody thinks that he doesn’t want to be here they are wrong,” Pellegrini told the press ahead of his sides trip to Chelsea on Monday.

“I’ve spoken to Marko and he wants to do better. Marko absolutely has the right mentality, and with support he will return to what he demonstrated some months ago.

“He does not have the same support of the fans that he had six months ago but with work and a positive reaction that will come.”
