Manchester City have held no talks with Lionel Messi and have not made an offer to sign the Barcelona superstar as uncertainty continues to surround the forward’s future.
Messi’s future has rarely been far from the headlines in recent months with the Argentina captain having announced a desire to leave Barcelona last summer, only to remain with the Catalan side amid the prospect of a legal battle with the club where he has spent his entire senior career to date.
The 33-year-old has now entered the final months of his contract and will be free to walk away from the Camp Nou at the end of the season, whilst the six-time Ballon d’Or winner is now free to negotiate with foreign sides over a potential pre-contract agreement.
Reports this week suggested the Premier League side have approached Messi with an offer, with The Sun having made some bold claims regarding the details of a potential deal for the star to move to the Etihad.
BBC Journalist, Simon Stone, has now revealed that there has yet been no approach from City, insisting that Pep Guardiola’s side have not made an offer for Messi and that no talks have been held.
Present situation on Lionel Messi via @ManCity. There have been no offers made, either in the summer, or since. And there are no talks.

City have been linked as one of the likeliest destinations should Messi depart Barcelona this summer, given the club’s financial ability to conclude a deal and the presence of Guardiola as manager.
The two enjoyed the most successful periods of their respective careers in tandem at the Camp Nou, Guardiola guiding the Spanish side to 14 trophies in just four seasons with Messi winning the Ballon d’Or in each of his seasons in charge.
Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked and have been vocal in their interest in signing Messi, a number of key figures from the Parisians having spoken on the prospect of the Argentine heading to France.
Messi’s unhappiness has come amid a period of turmoil both on and off the pitch in Catalonia, with the club’s latest ignominy a 4-1 home humiliation at the hands of PSG in the Champions League’s last 16 in midweek.
