Gary Neville believes Trent Alexander-Arnold can go on to become a ‘world-class full-back’, but reckons his Liverpool teammate Andy Robertson is currently ahead of the England international.
The former Manchester United defender was discussing Alexander-Arnold’s performance in Liverpool‘s 2-1 win over Tottenham on Sunday, praising the 21-year-old’s display as an attacking outlet for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Neville believes Alexander-Arnold’s has all the hallmarks to become one of the world’s best in his position, but says the youngster still needs to improve on the defensive aspects of his game, saying that teammate Robertson is currently the better all-round full-back.
“Liverpool’s full-back are quite simply sensational, Robertson is a better full-back than Trent Alexander Arnold,” Neville said on Sky Sports.
“I think Arnold is getting to a point where he is one of the best attacking full-backs I’ve ever seen but the three chances Tottenham had today, he also gave some free-kicks away, he has to be serious about his defence.
“I took the Man of the Match off him. He can be a world-class full-back if he sorts it out defensively.”
