Naismith admits he’d be ‘surprised’ if Jagielka moves to Scotland following Everton exit

Steven Naismith admits he’d be ‘surprised’ if outgoing Everton captain Phil Jagielka moved to Scotland.

The veteran centre-back is leaving Goodison Park after 12 years on Merseyside, with the 36-year-old having been linked with a move to Celtic.

Scotland international Naismith, who played alongside Jagielka at Everton, thinks the defender will remain in England and would be surprised to see his former teammate move north of the border.

“When I saw he was leaving Everton my first thought was where he’ll go. I can’t see him finishing because he has a lot to offer and loves football,” he told The Herald.

“Will that be in Scotland? I would be surprised if he came up here.

“He’s got more association with different clubs down south, like Sheffield United where he came through, and he has a family with kids who are going through school.

“So with all those thoughts to consider I’d be surprised if he comes to Scotland.”
