Jose Mourinho is told hold clear-the-air talks with his Manchester United squad today in a bid to get the club’s season back on track.
You could easily forget that United have won four of their last five fixtures in all competitions after some pretty abject performances on the field and plenty of. negative headlines on the back pages.
While Jose Mourinho caused some of those headlines from himself with his public criticism of Luke Shaw, and his now infamous 12 minute rant, the performances of the likes of Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez has also attracted plenty of attention in recent weeks.
Now, with the international break finally over, and players returning to training with their clubs, according to The Sun, Mourinho is planning to address his players and clarify his recent comments in a bid to clear-the-air and save their season.
A source told the newspaper:
“The staff are expecting Jose to address the entire squad today at Carrington.
“He only returned from a mini-holiday himself recently and was over there for a few days.
“He also took in the Scotland game last Friday. Only eight players remained at the club during the international break.
“They had about five-days off. Too many players were rushing off when they were knocked out by Sevilla.
“A few are now expecting the manager to clarify some of his recent public criticisms. It should make for an interesting day.”
United are currently second, 16 points behind Manchester City, and just two ahead of Liverpool, and actually have the hardest set of fixtures of anyone in the top six. They also know that they face the ultimate humiliation of watching Manchester City win the title against them if they lose the Manchester Derby in just over a weeks time.
