£20m price tag set for Arsenal and Man United target

Monaco have set an asking price of around £20m for Youssouf Fofana with Arsenal and Manchester United considering approaches for the midfielder.

Fofana’s contract is set to expire in 2025 and the Ligue 1 side have agreed to allow him to leave in the upcoming transfer window, rather than risk losing the 25-year-old on a free next summer.

His availability has alerted Arsenal and Manchester United who are each considering the France international as an option to add to their engine room.

Fofana ranked second in Ligue 1 for progressive passes last season and is currently with the France squad preparing for the European Championship, where he discussed his desire for a new challenge at a press conference.

“I have spoken about it with the hierarchy, it isn’t a secret,” Fofana said. “We had exchanges and they agreed to accompany me in this new stage. If [a move] doesn’t happen, I still have a year left and I will be happy to stay. We were in agreement that we would accompany each other in this process in which everyone should be a winner, be it me or the club.”

Manchester United are desperate to reinforce their midfield with doubts over a host of options. Sofyan Amrabat’s loan from Fiorentina has expired and is unlikely to be extended, while there are doubts over the futures of Scott McTominay and Casemiro. Arsenal, meanwhile, could allow Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny to leave this summer.

However, the Premier League sides are not alone in chasing a deal for Fofana. AC Milan are keeping tabs on his situation according to Goal, while there’s interest from Atletico Madrid and PSG.
