Mo Salah hailed as a ‘great leader’ upon triumphant Liverpool return

Mo Salah was lauded by Liverpool teammate Alexis Mac Allister after helping the team to victory over Brentford on his return from injury.

Darwin Nunez opened the scoring with a splendid chip in the 35th minute before Mac Allister doubled their lead in the second half.

That was followed up by Salah scoring his 15th Premier League goal of the campaign, but Ivan Toney got one back to give the Bees faint hope of making a comeback.

Those hopes were dashed by a late finish from Cody Gakpo to ensure the Reds temporarily extended their lead at the top of the table.

“You can see how much it means to us, to win the game and that is what we want,” Mac Allister told TNT Sports. “We came to a place that everyone knows it tough and it was good to get the three points and win the game.

“I feel lucky. My idea is to learn football and I just try and do my best and I am feeling very good. That is what I like. When I was in Argentina I used to play the 10. I try to score and assist, that is very important. I am really happy with my goal but the most important thing is the three points.”

Salah was included in the matchday squad for the first time since suffering a hamstring injury while representing Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations, but made an appearance earlier than expected when Jota was forced off with an injury.

The winger went on to set up Mac Allister for Liverpool’s second goal before netting the team’s third of the day.

“He is amazing. I am very happy for him. He has been out and a little bit frustrated about it but he came back and in just a couple of minutes, scored and assist. He is an amazing player and a great leader and an important player for us.

“We have an important game against Luton and Chelsea and we just try and take it game by game and do our best.”
