Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has shut down speculation linking him with becoming Liverpool’s next manager.
Postecoglou has been named as a potential option for Liverpool this summer, following the announcement that Jurgen Klopp will step down at Anfield at the end of the season.
The former’s impressive start at Spurs has reportedly placed him in contention for the role, but the Australian has shut down those links and insists his focus is on success in North London.
“I may be on a shortlist. I donโt think I want to say anything about that because I donโt think thatโs ever going to enter my brain space for what is my priorities in life and profession right now,” Postecoglou said at his pre-match press conference, ahead of facing Wolves this weekend.
Ahead of facing Wolves, Postecoglou opened up on his ambitions for the rest of the season after Spurs climbed into the Premier League’s top four last weekend.
“I don’t think you can really be specific around them. What we want to do is finish the season strongly. We started the season strongly, obviously. We had some challenges through another period which we handled not too bad. The results weren’t great but our competitive level was decent during that time.
“It’s about finishing the season strongly which is nod different to any other team. You can have specific targets but ultimately if you can finish the season strong, you’ll be in a good position.”
Postecoglou also provided an update on the fitness of his squad and confirmed full-back pair Destiny Udogie and Pedro Porro will miss this weekend’s game.
“We’ve had a couple of setbacks. Destiny [Udogie] picked up a knock last week, jarred his knee a bit, and he’s not available for tomorrow but I don’t think it’s anything too serious.
“Pedro [Porro] picked up a sort of strain in training. Fair to say he’ll be missing tomorrow. Probably a couple of weeks for him. With game break hopefully he doesn’t miss too many. Probably the major one for us is [reserve goalkeeper] Fraser Forster who has a fracture in his foot and he will probably miss conservatively a couple of months. Coming back it’s the same as last week.”
