Liverpool injury worries grow following treble blow against Brentford

Liverpool saw their injury list grow on Saturday after three key players were forced off early during the game against Brentford.

Curtis Jones had to be replaced by Ryan Gravenberch after going down injured a half an hour into the game.

Diogo Jota was stretchered off the pitch just before halftime after Christian Norgaard landed on the Portuguese forward at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Darwin Nunez followed suit at the break, replaced by Cody Gakpo for an unspecified issue after opening the scoring with a superb chip.

It is a major blow for Liverpool, who are already missing seven first-team players through injury. Alisson Becker was ruled out for the game after suffering a hamstring injury in training.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Thiago Alcantara, Joel Matip, Dominik Szoboszlai, Stefan Bajcetic, and Ben Doak are also on the treatment table.

There was at least one positive on the injury front for Jurgen Klopp, as Mo Salah came off the bench in place of Jota after recovering from a hamstring issue.

The Egyptian set up Alexis Mac Allister to double the Reds’ lead in the second half before getting on the scoresheet himself.

Ivan Toney got one back for the hosts, but Cody Gakpo made sure all three points went back to Merseyside when he scored Liverpool’s fourth in the 86th minute.
