Takumi Minamino will have a medical at Liverpool on Wednesday ahead of the midfielder’s move from Red Bull Salzburg on January 1.
The Premier League leaders are set to finalise the signing of the Japanese international in the coming days, having capitalised on a clause in his contract that will secure his signature for a cut-price fee of just £7.25m, with the deal set to be officially completed on the first day of the January transfer window.
Minamino starred during both of Salzburg’s clashes with Liverpool in this season’s Champions League, particularly at Anfield where he scored once and provided another in the Austrian champions 4-3 defeat.
The 24-year-old has scored nine goals and provided a further 11 assists in 22 appearances for Salzburg so far this season, and the versatile midfielder will bolster Jurgen Klopp‘s creative options as the club look to continue their push towards the Premier League title.
Despite playing against the Merseyside club in European competition this season, Minamino will also be free to participate in the club’s Champions League campaign following a change of rules by UEFA last season, with the holders drawn to face Spanish side Atletico Madrid in the last-16 next year.
According to the Mirror, Minamino is expected at Melwood on Wednesday to complete the final formalities of his January move, and could make his debut for the club in the Merseyside derby against Everton in the FA Cup on January 5.
