Matip warns Liverpool will have to be at ‘100%’ to beat Southampton

Joel Matip has warned his Liverpool teammates they will have to be at ‘100%’ to beat Southampton.

Jurgen Klopp’s side travel to St Mary’s to face the Saints on Friday night, knowing a win will move them back above Manchester City at the top of the Premier League.

Southampton have been in decent form of late, winning back-to-back games against Tottenham and Brighton to ease their relegation fears, and defender Matip is anticipating a tough test from Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side.

“Even if they’d not won their last games we know Southampton has good players and we have to be on 100 per cent to really get something there,” Matip told Premier League Productions.

“That will not be an easy game.

“We try to focus on our game,” the 27-year-old continued. “Of course you see the results of the other teams, but you cannot decide how they play.

“So it’s no need to spend too much time or concentration on their results or other games. You have to focus on your things you can do, things you can decide, things you can control.”
