Juan Mata has called on Manchester United to use their 4-0 victory over Norwich as an ‘example’ as the club look to find consistency in their performances this season.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side bounced back from their midweek Carabao Cup semi-final defeat to thrash the visitors at Old Trafford, Marcus Rashford scoring twice in addition to further goals from Anthony Martial and substitute Mason Greenwood.
Victory leaves Manchester United in fifth and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side remain five points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea in the race to secure Champions League qualification.
Speaking afterwards midfielder Mata called on his side to use their performance this weekend as a benchmark as they bid to close the gap to the top four in the coming weeks.
“It was very good performance. Very good response to our last defeat,” Mata told Sky Sports.
”We played great football today. We enjoyed it on the pitch, found some nice spaces.
“Today is a good example of how I believe we should play on a more consistent basis.
“There are more teams that will fight to get that (Champions League) position.
”Chelsea is going to earn points so we must focus on our results.”
