Injury boost for Man Utd with Rashford ‘optimistic’ of return following shoulder tear

Manchester United look set to be boosted by the availability of Marcus Rashford when they return to action against West Brom at the weekend.

The 23-year-old missed England’s hat-trick of games over the last two weeks due to a shoulder injury which was seemingly picked up in the 3-1 win over to Everton earlier this month.

However, according to Telegraph, the minor tear in his shoulder was actually picked up in Manchester United‘s 1-0 loss to Arsenal a week previous, and while it didn’t prevent him featuring against Istanbul Basaksehir and Everton, bruising emerged and it was decided that a period of rest would be most suitable.

While he hasn’t been training during the international break, Rashford has been working in the gym to build up his conditioning and allow the injury a chance to fully repair, with the Telegraph reporting he is ‘optimistic’ of being able to return to action at the weekend.

The news of Rashford’s potential availability will be a boost for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who faces uncertainty over the fitness of Anthony Martial following a back complaint on international duty that saw him miss out in the 4-2 win over Sweden.

United do of course have Mason Greenwood and Edinson Cavani to play in a central berth for their Saturday evening fixture against Slaven Bilic’s struggling West Brom side, the Red Devils hoping to register their first home win of the domestic campaign at the fifth attempt.

Solskjaer has also been handed a timely boost by the return of summer signing Alex Telles after he was forced to isolate following a positive Covid test, the Brazilian’s return coming as Luke Shaw has been ruled out for a month with a hamstring injury.
