Manchester United confirm signing of Christian Eriksen

Manchester United have announced the signing of Christian Eriksen, with the free agent having signed a three-year deal at Old Trafford.

Eriksen was available on a free transfer after leaving Brentford this summer, having shone since signing a short-term deal with the Bees in January.

The 30-year-old will reunite with Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, having trained with Ajax last season as the midfielder rehabilitated from the cardiac arrest he suffered while playing for Denmark at Euro 2020.

Eriksen – who has scored 52 goals and provided 71 assists in 237 appearances in the Premier League – believes he has joined the right club to fulfil his ‘major ambitions’ in the game.

“Manchester United is a special club, and I cannot wait to get started. I have had the privilege of playing at Old Trafford many times but to do it in the red shirt of United will be an amazing feeling,” he told the club’s official website.

“I have seen Erik’s work at Ajax and know the level of detail and preparation that he and his staff put into every day. It is clear that he is a fantastic coach. Having spoken with him and learned more about his vision and the way he wants the team to play, I am even more excited for the future.

“I still have major ambitions in the game, there is a huge amount that I know I can achieve, and this is the perfect place to continue my journey.”

Eriksen becomes the Red Devils’ second signing of the summer, following the arrival of left-back Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord. Sky Sports are reporting that Eriksen will not join up with the club for their pre-season tour in Australia, however, and will join his new teammates upon their return.
