Manchester United are claimed to be ‘on alert’ over the availability of Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez.
The 25-year-old has long been linked with a move to the Old Trafford club ever since David Moyes’ days in charge, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has also seemingly identified the Spain international as a target as he looks to rebuild his squad.
With Paul Pogba having spent most of the season on the sidelines with an ankle injury, Solskjaer has utilised Scott McTominay and Fred as his first choice midfield partnership in his absence, while Andreas Pereira has also filled in in a deeper role.
However, United are said to be keen on signing box-to-box midfielder Saul, with the Telegraph claiming that Atletico Madrid would ‘let him depart’ if he wishes to make a move to the Premier League club.
The Spaniard signed a nine-year deal back in 2017 back when the club were under a transfer embargo, that deal containing a £125 million release clause, though according to the report, the La Liga side would allow him to leave for £85 million, a valuation which has put United ‘on alert’.
If United were to land the midfielder, he could ultimately turn out to be a replacement for Pogba, who is said to be keen to move away from Old Trafford for a second time.
