Man Utd linked with Leon Bailey as Sancho alternative

Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for Bayer Leverkusen’s Leon Bailey as a potential alternative to top target Jadon Sancho.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to be busy in the summer transfer market as he bids to strengthen his attacking options at Old Trafford, with Borussia Dortmund’s Sancho believed to be the club’s priority in a deal that would represent a British transfer-record.

According to the Mail, however, Dortmund’s refusal to budge on their £100m valuation of the player has led to Manchester United considering alternative options and Leverkusen’s Bailey is player now apparently on the club’s radar.

The 22-year-old has impressed since signing for the Bundesliga side from Genk three years ago, with the winger’s pace and direct style appealing to the Red Devils as they look to add increased creativity and goal threat.

The Jamaican international currently has three years remaining on his contract at the BayArena, though Leverkusen’s valuation – believed to be in the region of £40m – makes Bailey a viable target for United this summer.

Bailey has scored seven goals and provided two assists in all competitions this season despite suffering with a succession of muscle injuries, whilst he has also attracted previous Premier League interest from the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool.
