Four potential destinations named for wantaway Martial

Four potential destinations have emerged for Manchester United’s wantaway striker Anthony Martial, following his agent’s revelations regarding his future earlier this week.

The Frenchman’s representative, Phillippe Lamboley, revealed on Friday that his client is keen to leave the Old Trafford outfit in January, having seen his game time heavily reduced this season following the arrivals of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho.

Even prior to the high profile additions, however, the former Monaco man had struggled for form and fitness last season, netting just seven goals in all competitions after previously scoring 23 times as the club’s leading striker in the 2019/20 campaign.

The 26-year-old had also been United’s top scorer during his debut campaign in the 2015/16 season under Louis Van Gaal, although has failed to really build on that early promise, showing undoubted flashes of brilliance yet largely flattering to deceive.

Ahead of a possible exit in the winter window, the Mirror have named four possible destinations for Martial, both in the Premier League and abroad.

The first suggestion is perhaps unsurprisingly, Newcastle United, the relegations strugglers possibly set for an active window next month following their recent mega-money takeover.

With Manchester United unlikely to offload the forward on the cheap, the Magpies would seemingly be one side able to afford a transfer fee owing to their substantial investment, although it remains to be seen whether the player would be willing to join a side who are currently in the drop zone.

Another possible new home could that of Arsenal, with Alexandre Lacazette likely to depart in the near future, although it remains to be seen if the Gunners would be able to meet the asking price, with the Red Devils unlikely to sanction a loan deal to a potential top-four rival.

Elsewhere, a move to cash-strapped Barcelona could be another alternative as new boss Xavi looks to bolster his meagre options in attack, although the Catalan giants are only likely to be able to afford a loan deal due to their financial crisis.

Finally, the report suggests Martial could be offered a return to France to join a star-studded squad at Paris Saint-Germain, with the Ligue 1 side preparing for life without Kylian Mbappe, who is seemingly set to join Real Madrid on a free transfer in the summer.
