Man Utd ‘closing in’ on Casemiro deal

Manchester United are said to be ‘closing in’ on the signing of Casemiro with the club nearing a €60m (£50.7m) deal for the Real Madrid midfielder.

Negotiations are progressing over a deal for the Brazil international and the Spanish side are expected to accept an offer which could rise to €70m (£59.2m) with add ons.

The deal will end United’s pursuit of a defensive midfielder having endured a frustrating summer in the transfer market. Erik ten Hag had made the signing of Frenkie de Jong his number one target, but despite agreeing an initial fee with Barcelona a deal failed to materialise.

The Guardian are reporting that United will offer Casemiro a four-year contract that will place the 30-year-old among the club’s highest earners.

Casemiro has made 336 appearances in all competitions for Real Madrid and has won three league titles and five Champions League winners’ medals among his honours. He formed part of the side that won the latter competition last season, beating Liverpool 1-0 in the final.

Real have recruited Aurélien Tchouaméni and Eduardo Camavinga across the past two summer transfer windows as the club plan the future of their midfield and are prepared to allow Casemiro to leave following a big offer from the Premier League.

Despite contrasting reports, he is not expected to complete a medical on Friday and will not be registered in time to face Liverpool on Monday evening, with the player still needing to receive a visa.
