Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani has seemingly made a decision over his future, with reports in Argentina suggesting that the Uruguayan is set to join Boca Juniors at the end of the season.
The former Paris Saint-Germain man arrived at Old Trafford on a free transfer somewhat unexpectedly on deadline day of the summer transfer window, following a hugely successful seven-year spell at the Parc des Princes in which he became the club’s all-time record goalscorer.
While many were skeptical over United’s decision to bring the veteran in, he has since proven to be a very astute purchase, albeit without being able to put a real run of games together.
The 34-year-old has hit seven goals in all competitions, including six in the Premier League, netting a notable brace in United’s second-half comeback win over Southampton back in November.
However, despite his impressive displays it looks as if his time could be up in England, with Argentinean outlet Ole reporting that Cavani has ‘decided’ to join Boca Juniors at the end of the season.
The forward signed a one-year deal when he moved to the Red Devils at the start of the season and United have the option of a one-year extension, although both parties are reportedly able to call it a day if they wish.
The report suggests that Cavani has long dreamed of playing for the Argentine club, with it also offering him the chance to return to South America, bringing an end to his superb European journey.
The former Napoli man would likely have to take a pay cut on his £210,000-a-week wage if he is to move to Boca, where he would link up with fellow veteran and former United man Carlos Tevez.
As for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, they have been heavily rumoured with bringing in a new striking addition this summer, with Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland one of the names being speculated.
While the club would no doubt have been impressed by Cavani’s impact, there is seemingly a desire for a more long-term and youthful presence upfront.
