Manchester United are hopeful Alex Telles will be available for selection this weekend despite reports that the left-back has tested positive for coronavirus whilst on international duty.
Telles made his Manchester United debut in the 2-1 win over PSG last month before being ruled out for two weeks after testing positive for the virus.
The Brazilian returned to action with the national on Saturday as a late substitute in 1-0 win over Venezuela, though is now a doubt for the clash against Uruguay in Montevideo after recording a positive test for Covid-19 – the second time the full-back has tested positive for the virus.
United‘s medical staff are now monitoring the situation and the news could potentially rule the summer signing out for a fortnight, with a two-week period of self-isolation required for players who test positive for the virus.
The news would come as a major blow to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side who will be without fellow left-back Luke Shaw through injury, though a statement on the club’s official website revealed the Red Devils are hopeful Telles will be available for selection ahead of this weekend’s clash with West Bromwich Albion at Old Trafford.
It is yet unclear whether Telles has recorded a second positive test or whether his previous positive result has caused problems for travel into Uruguay, a statement by the Brazilian Football Federation revealing Guilherme Arana has been called up to the squad as cover for the United star.
Telles will undergo an assessment at United’s training complex upon his return from international duty this week before a decision is made on his availability.
