Man United interested in £50 million Wolves winger Neto

Manchester United are reportedly interested in a move for £50m rated Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Pedro Neto, the Red Devils looking at potential alternatives to Jadon Sancho.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have spent much of the current campaign without a recognised right-winger, with the likes of Daniel James, Mason Greenwood and even Paul Pogba lining up there this season despite seemingly being better placed elsewhere.

Manchester United had previously been linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund man Sancho, yet after having been unwilling to meet his €120m asking price, the former Manchester City man remained in Germany, where he has since endured a slightly underwhelming season thus far.

Although the Red Devils did bring in the youthful duo of Amad Diallo and Facundo Pellistri, both of whom can play on the right, it would seem that neither teenager is quite ready to be a regular starter, with the latter man currently out on loan at Spanish side, Alaves.

With the summer transfer window fast approaching, rumours of a move for Sancho have seemingly stalled, the Sun reporting that the club are instead turning their attention to Wolves man Pedro Neto.

The 21-year-old joined Nuno Espirito Santo’s side in August 2019, after having spent time with Braga and Lazio and has gone to become a really exciting addition to the Premier League, with his explosive speed and ability with both feet really catching the eye.

The Portugal international would likely command a fee of around £50m to take him to Old Trafford, a huge increase on the £16m that the Midlands club paid to bring him to England.

The report suggests that the winger previously went on trial at United back in 2016, although the club were not convinced enough at the time to sign him.

A move for Neto would represent something of a left-field signing, with the past 18 months or so seeing both Sancho and Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish as the two men seemingly most likely to join the club.

While Sancho may still be an option, particularly if Dortmund miss out on Champions League qualification, Grealish’s ever-increasing price tag may have put off the Red Devils, while Manchester City are also said to be interested in the Villa man.

With the financial impact of Covid-19, United are perhaps seeking cheaper alternatives this summer, as Solskjaer recently admitted that it may not be business as usual in the transfer window due to the current economic situation.
