Man United and Liverpool lead race for Wolves’ Ruben Neves

Manchester United and Liverpool are leading the race to sign Wolves captain Ruben Neves this summer.

Neves is keen to leave Wolves in search of a new challenge this summer and his desire for an exit has alerted several leading clubs.

Barcelona have been linked with a move to sign the Portugal international, with the Catalans long-term admirers of Neves and seeking a potential replacement for Sergio Busquets as the club captain considers a move to MLS.

However, Football Insider are reporting that Barcelona’s financial situation makes a move to a Premier League rival more likely for Neves, with both Manchester United and Liverpool considering approaches for the 26-year-old.

Manchester United have held a long-standing interest in the midfielder and Erik ten Hag could make a move for Neves as he reshapes his engine room.

United signed Marcel Sabitzer on loan from Bayern Munich to add depth in central midfield during the January transfer window, while Scott McTominay has been linked with an exit after falling out of favour this season.

Liverpool’s desire for midfield recruits is well-documented and the Reds have also monitored Neves’ Wolves teammate, Matheus Nunes. Jurgen Klopp’s side want to refresh an ageing midfield and are also expected to see Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain leave on free transfers this summer.

Neves has less than 18 months to run on his current contract at Wolves and the club are not expected to stand in the way of a potential exit.
