Raheem Sterling has revealed his love for Liverpool and suggested he would be open to a possible return to the club one day.
The England international burst onto the scene as a teenager at Liverpool, making 129 appearances for the club in all competitions before leaving for Manchester City in acrimonious circumstances five years ago.
Sterling has since flourished into one of Europe’s finest footballers during his time at the Etihad, winning two league titles amongst a wealth of major honours with the Manchester side, though the nature of his departure has led to him becoming a pantomime villain on each of his visits to Merseyside.
Despite the animosity shown towards him on his subsequent returns to Anfield, the 25-year-old insists he retains a strong affection for his former club and refused to rule out the possibility of a future Liverpool return when asked directly if he would ever go back.
“Would I ever go back to Liverpool? To be honest with you I love Liverpool,” Sterling said during a Q&A session on Instagram.
“Don’t get it twisted, they are always in my heart. It’s a team that done [sic] a lot for me growing up so…”
