Man City and Chelsea both keen on Bayern goal machine, Lewandowski

Champions League finalists Manchester City and Chelsea are both reportedly keen on Bayern Munich goal machine, Robert Lewandowski, the prolific forward potentially available to buy this summer.

The 32-year-old has been one of Europe’s most consistent and lethal marksmen in recent years, following up his brilliant spell at Borussia Dortmund with an even better time at Bayern, the Poland international having arrived at the Allianz Arena on a free transfer in 2014.

In that seven-year spell with the Bavarian giants, the striker has netted an outrageous 198 Bundesliga goals, helping the club to Champions League glory last season and what will soon be a seventh successive league title.

This season, in particular, has been especially fruitful for the former Lech Poznan man, with 36 league goals to his name in just 26 names, meaning his is now just four goals away from matching Gerd Muller’s record of 40 goals in a single domestic campaign.

Although it would seem any move away would be unlikely, the player is still attracting interest ahead of a possible move at the end of the season, ESPN reporting that both Chelsea and Manchester City are keen on making a deal happen.

The report suggests that it would take a bid of at least €60 million to even begin negotiations over a move to bring him to England, the forward’s current contract set to expire in the summer of 2023.

Current Man City boss Pep Guardiola is fully aware of the striker’s talents having worked alongside him at Bayern between 2014 and 2016, and could be on the lookout for a suitable centre-forward replacement for the outgoing Sergio Aguero, the Argentine club legend set to leave at the end of the season.

As for FA Cup finalists, Chelsea, the lack of a real consistent striking presence has been an issue this season, with summer signing Timo Werner enduring an indifferent campaign, albeit while still being the club’s top scorer – alongside Tammy Abraham – with 12 goals in all competitions.

While both clubs have been keeping a close eye on Lewandowski, they have also been heavily linked with a move for Dortmund hotshot Erling Haaland, with Thomas Tuchel’s side also having been rumoured to be interested in snapping up the departing Aguero from their ‘Big Six’ rivals.
