Liverpool and Everton linked with Torino defender, Bremer

Liverpool and Everton are reportedly interested in signing Torino defender Gleison Bremer as the Merseyside rivals consider their defensive options in the January window.

The centre-back has attracted interest from across the continent following his performances in recent seasons and was linked with a move to the Premier League during the summer, with interest remaining high in the Brazilian with both Liverpool and Everton understood to be considering a winter window move.

Liverpool have seen their centre-back options severely depleted following long-term injuries to both Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez, whilst concerns remain over the fitness of Joel Matip who has missed much of the past two campaigns with a succession of injuries.

Jurgen Klopp has turned to midfielder Fabinho to deputise so far this season with inexperienced duo Rhys Williams and Nathaniel Phillips having also featured, though according to Italian journalist Matteo Pedrosi writing in Corriere Granata, plans are underway with Bremer on the club’s radar.

Liverpool will face strong competition for the 23-year-old’s signature from Merseyside rivals Everton, however, with both clubs keen on a player whose aerial strength seems tailor-made for the demands of the Premier League.

Torino are believed to be anticipating offers for the highly-rated defender next month and have begun considering replacements, the Italian side having been linked with Flamengo’s Natan.
