Chelsea boss Frank Lampard says he has been ‘very much impressed’ by midfielder Jorginho since his appointment as the club’s new manager.
The Italy international was Sarri’s marquee signing last summer, but after a bright start, he came in for fierce criticism during his debut season at the club due to his sideways passing, having incredibly dislodged N’Golo Kante from his regular starting berth in the heart of midfield.
However, new Chelsea boss Lampard has been left impressed by the 27-year-old in his early weeks in charge, praising the midfielder for his qualities both on and off the field.
“Jorginho became quite a conversation last year,” Lampard told the media ahead of Friday’s friendly with Kowasaki Frontale in Japan.
“But I’m actually looking at a player who has very much impressed me over the last 10 days.
“The one thing that struck me about him is not just his quality on the ball. I saw that last year.
“His attitude in training has been first-class. He’s a driver of a session. He’s a voice.
“He drags people up when he doesn’t feel they’re working as much as he might want.”
