Lampard says Chelsea strikers need ‘belief’ and discusses possible Batshuayi return

Frank Lampard says Chelsea’s strikers need ‘belief’ as Michy Batshuayi nears a first-team return.

Batshuayi is in contention to feature in Chelsea‘s trip to Norwich this weekend, with the Belgian set to provide competition for Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud.

Lampard was full of praise for his forward options, and says the trio just need a bit of ‘belief’ as they bid to shoulder the side’s goalscoring burden.

“What I have got is great attitudes in the three strikers and the other players,” Lampard said at his pre-match press conference.

“[If] Tammy’s goes in off the post at [Manchester] United it is a different story. It’s about belief.”

Batshuayi scored twice in Chelsea U23’s 3-0 win over Liverpool earlier this week, with Lampard admitting the 25-year-old impressed for the development side.

“It was a good performance and he got what he needed out of the game,” he added. “He worked hard. We need Michy, we need the competition for up front.

“Hopefully if they can continue. If we had been more clinical we might have had three wins, that is the challenge for us. Not just the strikers, competition is good.”
