Frank Lampard has called for ‘focus’ from his Chelsea side are they look to bounce back from consecutive defeats when they face Aston Villa on Wednesday night.
Chelsea have begun the season in largely impressive fashion but have suffered a dip in results over the past week, having failed to win in any of their past three fixtures in all competitions.
The club return to Premier League action when they face Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge in midweek, and Lampard has called for focus from his inexperienced side as they look to recover from a recent dip in results.
“If anyone thought it was going to be a breeze this season that would have been misguided, especially when you have to play Manchester City away, then Valencia then a home game a few days later.
“We just need to focus on our reaction, make sure it’s a general reaction as a team.”
Chelsea remain in the top four but have seen their lead slashed to just six points by a resurgent Tottenham in fifth, and Lampard is expecting a fiercely competitive second half of the season as the race for Champions League qualification heats up.
“The competition for top four is always going to be great, Tottenham would have been among the favourites to be in the title race, we understand the competition of teams around us, some unfancied sides are there as well.
“We have to respect everyone but worry about ourselves.”
Chelsea could be boosted by the return from injury of Tammy Abraham for the visit of Dean Smith’s side, though Ross Barkley and Antonio Rudiger will be absent through illness and injury respectively.
