Chelsea manager Frank Lampard says he is expecting John Terry to get a ‘great reception’ when the club legend makes his first return to Stamford Bridge with Aston Villa this week.
Former Chelsea captain Terry will return to the club with current employers Aston Villa on Wednesday night, having brought a glittering career in West London to an end two years ago before joining the Midlands side as a player before later moving into their coaching staff alongside Dean Smith.
Terry and Smith helped Villa earn promotion to the Premier League last season and have made a solid start to life back in the top flight, with Lampard admitting he has been impressed by the work his former teammate has done alongside the Villa manager.
“I went up against him twice last year. I have huge respect for the job he and Dean Smith have done,” Lampard said at his pre-match press conference.
“He will get a great reception from the fans. It will be pretty emotional for him and I will look forward to seeing him back.
“We are back focused on his jobs, I spoke to him last week.”
Fourth-placed Chelsea will be looking to bounce back from consecutive Premier League defeats when they face Villa in midweek, the visitors currently 15th in the division following last weekend’s draw at Manchester United.
