Klopp wants Liverpool to be ‘very angry and stay greedy’

Jurgen Klopp has called on Liverpool to be ‘very angry and stay greedy’ as the club pursue further silverware this season.

Liverpool sit top of the Premier League after the opening two fixtures of the new season, as the club look to go one better than last season’s runners-up finish.

Ahead of this weekend’s clash with second-placed Arsenal, Klopp has discussed his side’s team spirit following their Champions League success last season, but has called on his side to ‘push each other’ and ‘stay greedy’ as they seek to enjoy a sustained period of success.

“There are different types of team spirit, the team won the Champions League last season so it would be strange if they didn’t,” Klopp said at Friday’s pre-match press conference.

“It’s about being able to kick the butts of your team-mates, not just having drinks together.

“I liked what Hendo said in pre-season when he said ‘we’d be friends forever.’ Not best friends, you’ve got to be able to push each other for now.

“At the moment we have to be friends but not best friends.

“We have to be very angry and stay greedy. We are, I’m not in doubt about that.

“The best team spirit in the world isn’t just about being together, we want everybody to be pushing each other. That’s what we have.”
