Klopp dismisses talk of title decider ahead of Man City-Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp has dismissed the suggestion that Liverpool’s trip to Manchester City represents a Premier League title decider this weekend.

The division’s top two meet this weekend as Liverpool travel to face the Premier League leaders at the Etihad on Sunday, with the Reds having reduced the gap on the defending champions to just a single point.

The clash between the sides has been billed as a title decider as we reach the final weeks of the season, but Klopp has downplayed talk of the fixture proving decisive.

Liverpool are on a ten-game winning run in the Premier League and an 11th victory in succession will move the Reds above City and two points clear at the top.

“I cannot decide what people think, but we can just go through the possible results,” Klopp said at his pre-match press conference.

“If we win we are two points up, does anyone think that’s done and dusted? We lose we’re four points behind. If it’s a draw, one point behind – that is it.

“A very important game, I’m really looking forward to it, if we were fourteen or fifteen points behind it will still be a good game.

“We’ve qualified for a great game with the season we’ve played so far and I am really happy that we can be part of it.

“I can imagine a lot of people will watch it and we will give it a try.”

Liverpool have won just one of the last eight meetings between the teams in all competitions, with the first encounter at Anfield this season proving a pulsating 2-2 draw.

Klopp is anticipating another ‘good game’ between the modern rivals and believes history has shown that both sides will go for all three points.

“I’m expecting a good game. I know very often that doesn’t happen when two top teams face each other.

“Our history with City shows that very often they have been pretty a interesting watch because both teams really go for it.”
