Martin Keown says Tottenham are capable of winning the Premier League this season.
The Champions League finalists have enjoyed a productive transfer window this summer, breaking the club’s transfer-record to sign Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele and also adding Real Betis star Giovani Lo Celso and England U21 international Ryan Sessegnon.
Champions Manchester City and last season’s runners-up Liverpool are once again expected to be the favourites for the title, however former Arsenal defender Known believes Mauricio Pochettino’s side are capable of challenging this season.
“Our neighbours just down the road, Tottenham, listen they never had a home last season, they had nine players involved in the latter stages of the World Cup and they made it to a Champions League final,” Keown told talkSPORT
“Why can’t they win the league? They will be thinking that now they’ve bought players, last season they didn’t buy anyone.”
Despite insisting Spurs can close the gap on the Premier League’s top two, Keown stopped short of backing the North London side for the title.
Asked whether he thought the Premier League would be heading to Tottenham, Keown added: “No. But I think they will have something to say about who might win it. They are looking strong.
“They are just purring in the background there. They’ve got a top manager there in Pochettino. He called out the chairman really and they spent a bit of money.
“It will be interesting to watch how they go this season.”
