N’Golo Kante is reportedly interested in leaving Chelsea and is keen on a ‘dream’ move to Real Madrid amid an apparently frosty relationship with Frank Lampard at Stamford Bridge.
Kante has struggled to recapture his best form since Lampard’s arrival at the west London side last summer and endured an injury-hit campaign last term, a succession of injuries keeping him sidelined for much of the season.
The France international has since returned to full fitness and has started each of Chelsea’s four league fixtures so far this season, but according to Le Parisien, is considering his options due to a strained relationship with Lampard.
It marks a drastic change in relations with the Chelsea boss, who had granted the midfielder compassionate leave earlier this year amid his concerns over returning to football in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.
The 29-year-old is believed to be upset with the manager’s refusal to allow him to miss training to attend a friend’s wedding before the international break, and Kante’s frustrations are now understood to have him dreaming of a move to Real Madrid – a club he has supported since a child.
The Spanish giants have previously been linked with a move for the World Cup winner as Zinedine Zidane seeks to overhaul an ageing midfield at the Bernabeu, the Frenchman believed to be a huge admirer of his compatriot’s abilities.
Inter Milan – now under the guidance of former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte – are also long-term admirers of the player and would be keen on his signing should he depart the Premier League, though the Blues are in a strong position given Kante still has three years remaining on his current contract.
Kante moved to the club from Leicester four years ago and was named as the PFA Player of the Year as Chelsea won the title in his debut season, the midfielder having since made 175 appearances in all competitions and added the FA Cup and Europa League to his silverware collection.
