Joe Cole believes Chelsea’s 1-0 win at Ajax was the club’s best performance yet under Frank Lampard and admits it ‘just feels right’ under the guidance of the former club great.
Michy Batshuayi’s late goal secured a precious Champions League victory for the Blues at the Johan Cruyff Arena, victory making it six consecutive wins in all competitions for Lampard’s in-form side.
The win over last season’s semi-finalists lifted Chelsea to the top of Group H and Cole, a former teammate of Lampard at Stamford Bridge, was full of praise for the club’s positive performance.
“It was a top class performance and certainly Frank’s best performance since he went over,” Cole said on BT Sport.
“From being in and around the club it just feels right.
“Players who may have felt pushed aside or unsure of their future, they are now producing big moments for the club and it is credit to Frank and his staff.
“It is really looking good at Chelsea.
“As players you want to know what is expected and what your role is,” he added.
“It seems that every game they play they get better and better. For a team like Ajax, not many teams go there, control possession and keep the ball as well as [Chelsea] did.
“They were excellent tonight.”
