Inter ‘pushing’ to secure Lukaku loan deal

Inter Milan are ‘pushing’ to secure the loan signing of Romelu Lukaku and are confident of reaching an agreement with Chelsea.

Inter are in talks to sign the Belgium international on a season-long loan deal with the two clubs in negotiations over a deal that will include a €10m loan fee and his wages covered in full.

Lukaku is keen to leave Chelsea and re-join the Italian side after just one season at Stamford Bridge, having signed for the west Londoners in a £97.5m club record deal last summer.

The 29-year-old struggled for form and favour during the 2021/22 campaign, scoring just eight league goals in 28 appearances for Thomas Tuchel’s side.

Lukaku enjoyed the best period of his career across two seasons at Inter Milan, scoring 64 goals in 95 appearances across all competitions and starring during the club’s Serie A title success under Antonio Conte in 2020/21.

He became the fastest footballer to reach 50 goals for the club and was named as the division’s Most Valuable Player following their drought-breaking Scudetto success.

His move to Chelsea has failed to work out as hoped and both parties are now open to an exit, whilst Inter are keen to re-sign the forward and improve their attacking options after finishing as runners-up to AC Milan in Serie A last season.
